WOW!

The ig_degree_betweenness python module has hit 747 downloads just 2 days after its release!

If you work with social network analysis and want to detect clusters with two major popularity metrics, check out the ig_degree_betweenness - available in Python and R!

My own #Sunbelt2025 talk will be on Saturday 28th July (10am local time, room 112 - in case you're there 👋🏻) and will discuss space usage processes in buildings as a two-mode network between people and spaces (see the slide alt text for more info)

I'm talking in one of three sessions on Spatial and Geographic Social Networks organised by Clio Andris, Zachary Neal, Paul Schuler and Gil Viry - excited about so many lovely talks with a spatial angle

Some social network analysis on Metroidvanias.

Data from reddit.com/r/metroidvania/comm, two games are connected (with a weighted edge) when they appear in the same answer.

We arrange the games on the tiles, aiming to minimize the sum of (distance) * (weight). Hyperbolic geometry tends to be be good for this kind of visualization (closeness correlates to edge weight).

Tehora Rogue has run a community detection algorithm (using Gephi) on this network multiple times. This algorithm would find 4 to 6 communities in different runs, the 4 communities shown are based on aggregation of the results.
(There are "green" and "yellow" communities of sets of five games posted by "trolls" who have posted games not mentioned by anyone else, and the main genre splits into "blue" and "red" -- if you know these games, do you have any idea what the blue/red split could mean?

In the second picture, the red / blue / green components (excluding trolls) are determined by how often the game appeared in the same community as Iconoclasts / Cookie Cutter / Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. These three games were chosen because they frequently belonged to different communities.

#introduction

Hi There, Fediverse. Me again!

My journey started off over at mastodonapp.uk in 2022 but decided to try and host my own #Mastodon instance with very little success.

This is my new home now. The kind folks at moth.social now have to put up with me.

But who are you? I'm #Christian in #Academia (#postdoc)
Interest in #DataScience, #SocialNetworkAnalysis, #Politics, and a bit of #CyberSecurtity

In my own time, you can find me #running or out #cycling on my bike in #SouthWales.

But also the #SocialNetworkAnalysis community is just the best. 💙
This morning in a keynote talk when I felt I was the first one to be thrown off a rollercoaster of genius ideas because I couldn't follow anymore, that feeling of being lost (and maybe not belonging?) was instantly dispersed by the first two comments from amazing scholars who said that they couldn't follow much either.
TFW we're pushing intellectual boundaries together and recognising it's hard work

Day 3 of #SocialNetworkAnalysis Duality@50 conference is coming to a close.
After 3 days of intense discussions my brain feels very exploded - (mostly) in a good way.
Reminded how hard #interdisciplinarity is - I'm the only architecture scholar in a group of sociologists, psychologists, political scientists, mathematicians and statisticians and while it's super inspiring, I also translate in my mind all the time how everything I'm hearing might be relevant for my own domain

Day 1 of the Duality@50 #SocialNetworkAnalysis conference is coming to an end. I've learnt so much, listened to brilliant talks, received great comments on my own work and had many inspiring conversations in the beautiful atmosphere of Lago Maggiore.
I've also spent several hours in bed in between for my #longCovid energy management and pacing.
Have learnt that Georg Simmel spent time here twice to rest and recuperate, so gladly continuing the tradition
