Historically, peaceful demonstrations and public #advocacy have been instrumental in advancing #HumanRights, #PublicHealth, and #EnvironmentalProtection worldwide. Suppressing such activism not only undermines democratic freedoms but also places #Alberta at odds with the global movement toward #climate responsibility. This is doubly our responsibility while we are on journey of #reconciliation with #FirstNations, #Inuit, and #Métis peoples.

My Mom was #frenchcanadian #metis, but loved all things #irish. She played #clancybrothers all the time, especially the really political stuff.
Apparently, in Kindergarten, we were learning "The Ants Go Marching" and I informed the teacher that the lyrics were wrong.
I gave forth with this:
"With your guns and drums and drums and guns, hurroo, hurroo...
The enemy nearly slew ye
Oh my darling dear, Ye look so queer
Johnny I hardly knew ye."
We were warmly welcomed by the 3rd Carleton Place Embers (ages 7-8) to share our Métis cultural awareness workshop.
The irony of the #GoHabsGo “First People’s Celebration” being sponsored by the railway, which was the main conduit of European #colonization in #Canada. It enabled a much more expedient means of oppressing the #Indigenous people, and quelling any rebellions (such as Louis Riel and the #Métis.)
Story in NYT about #Canada #Flag. I was looking at the diverse (NOT!!) committee members and noticed one woman, Margaret Konantz. “Margaret McTavish Konantz OBE (née Rogers; 30 April 1899 – 11 May 1967) was a Canadian politician of #Métis ancestry, who represented the electoral district of #Winnipeg South in the House of Commons of Canada from 1963 to 1965.[1] She was the first woman from Manitoba elected to the House of Commons” (Wikipedia)
We were invited to Rideau Hall to perform at the Governor General’s Winter Celebration. This was our second year performing at this event and the first time that Youth4Youth Canada was granted a cultural booth.
Someone in one of my groups asked what the best maple syrup made in Canada was.
The poor OP.
Being French-Canadian Metis, I waxed poetic ...you see, syrup is our holy wine.
Maple syrup is our all-purpose condiment, and ideally should come from Quebec and in a can.Commercial "table syrup" is not "real syrup". (and we're right.)
Tap our veins, and sap will run out.

“I had this idea for adapting a fairytale that I had come across … that had really influenced me and how I looked at the world.”
The Manitoba Theatre for Young People play Blue Beads & Blueberries will run from Feb. 21 to March 2 in Winnipeg before touring schools throughout the province.
Our Two-Spirit Council (of the Metis Nation of Ontario) is looking for a logo. We will pay a Two-Spirit person to design it. If you are interested, time is of the essence. Please contact mnotwospiritpresident@gmail.com and see instructions on the graphic below. You do not need to be Metis. All Two-Spirit designers are welcome to submit work. You will be compensated. Thank you.

We were warmly welcomed by the 24th Ottawa Scout Group to share our Metis cultural awareness workshop.
The scouts were genuinely interested in knowing more about tour culture and even though they’d never tried jigging before, they really seemed to enjoy learning the basic steps.
This was our second year performing at Rideau Hall at the Governor General’s Winter Celebration, which is an official part of Ottawa's Winterlude festival.
We performed three sets featuring our traditional dances, with special guest appearances by our Y4Y colleague Akina Ohlman and our Junior Jiggers. We were grateful for Elders and Knowledge Keepers Senator Parm Burgie and Veda Weselake who provided opening and closing prayers and smudging.
I’m Bryan, a #metis former #cdnpoli staffer and legal professional now working in local government. I care about #digitalsovereignty and in addition to politics I’m very interested in various #tech things like #cybersecurity #development and stuff like that.
I’m mostly on bsky but want to make an effort to be here too.
So what’s poppin

I joined Bluesky today. I'm unimpressed. Lots of anti-Métis Nation of Ontario hate and disinformation there too. Not sure I will nest.
