@CVE_Program @adulau @pombr I quote: "VulnCon 2025: One submission has been made for a panel on “Software Identity and the Vulnerability Management Ecosystem,” covering topics like CPE and Purl. That's not from me, but it could be! (will be there - remotely)
Exciting news: Socket is now part of TC54! We're joining forces to help shape the future of SBOMs, CycloneDX, and PURL, making software supply chains more secure & transparent.

@MobileMaggie Thanks! Yeah #permalinks are great, and IMO https://perma.cc/ is great for institutional archiving.
Of course, if a #DOI exists, the URL itself could be a permalink, and there's even an official DOI URL shortener:
And for items without a DOI, the @internetarchive maintains a Persistent URL (#PURL) service:

@awinkler @librerli @stabi_berlin Der resolver ist unser #pURL Resolver. Die verwendete ID dort ist spezifisch für diesen Dienst und wir bei uns nirgendwo sonst genutzt (natürlich finden sich die #pURLs in unseren Nachweissystemen). Der Resolver wird natürlich weiterbetrieben und es werden auch weiterhin neue #pURLs für Digitalisate vergeben.

A key service still offline: the global Persistent URL system (#PURL, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistent_uniform_resource_locator#History) https://purl.org/

Disturbing how this seems to align with other attempts to cancel key parts of the digital memory of our age. So, part of our culture

Ecma TC54 will be working towards standardizing Package URL, specifically purl, vers, and purl types. TC54 will be working out the details over the next few weeks. We invite everyone to learn more about TC54 and contribute to the advancement of Package URL.
Additionally, a #purl channel is now available on the CycloneDX Slack workspace where nearly 2K people are discussing SBOM and related technologies. Slack information and invite located on the TC54 website.
When someone registers a CVE, a vulnerability, for a product the CNA that opens the issue adds a name for the product called a CPE. The owner of the product is not always involved and the name is not very specific. This leads to problems when we try to match names in our SBOM with the names in the CVE and NVD databases to see if there's any issues. A "not found" answer means both "product not found" and "product found, but no CVEs reported" - which is confusing.
The community is heading towards PURL, package URL, as a name specification. The PURL specification will be standardised by ECMA, spearheaded by OWASP, which is a good step forward. It's an extensible naming scheme that can be used for a large variety of packages - NPM, Maven, Linux packaging, crates and more. It can also be used for projects and products outside of these systems.
Naming is important and we do hope that coming versions of the CVE/NVD will adopt PURLs. Check it out at https://github.com/package-url/purl-spec
As other systems already use PURL, make sure you have PURLs in your SBOM!
This is one of the challenges I had with #knitting any sort of unique #pattern.
My current, first, project is all #garter #stitch. Since then, I've marked some patterns that involve only #knit / #purl combinations for a #blanket for my cat.
Another challenge I have is wanting to try different combinations of knit-purl, but not knowing if it'll look weird.
For example, if I choose to repeat {k7, p5, k2}, I would have no clue what that would look like after a handful of rows, especially for projects of different width/cast-on length. I think this would be an amazing tool. I guess most people just prefer to knit various patterns made by others, but I find myself attracted to understanding the way the fibres interact and weave. I'm not sure if there's a term for this...
I'm currently too busy to even knit more than one row of my blanket, so I haven't had any time to work on such a #script / #program, but maybe once I have more of a 9-5 style job...
