I need some advice!
I'm looking for a small, quiet, and affordable media PC that's Linux-ready. It doesn't need to handle gaming or editing — just 4K video and audio playback to a receiver, serving files from a hard drive. Any recommendations?

I've been having annoying issues with my #Linux setup, and I'm having a hard time describing what the problem is, and I don't know who to turn to for #LinuxHelp.
Best I can figure is, there is a problem with EGL, Mesa, and/or OpenGL which is preventing graphical contexts from being created correctly as a normal user in certain cases.

Thinking of switching to Linux...
I've read that it's more flexible in terms of "modifying" open source softwares (mainly photography) to have my own versions and simply has more freedom. Since I discovered these softwares I never looked back but I'm a Windows user my whole life.
What's a beginner friendly version of Linux you advise me to give it a go ?

Out of curiosity, it's probably not a good sign when your Linux boot shell goes to 'init emergency mode' and says it can't find a disk, right?
cursed tech problem (pls help)
And now I can't get internet. I rebooted with my Ethernet plugged in and now all my internet options are gone and I can't get my laptop to detect wifi networks nor the Ethernet that's plugged in.
Is it normal for Steam on Linux to suddenly grind to a halt when writing to NTFS drives?
And is it normal for the NTFS driver to completely max out on 1 CPU logical core and not spread out the lid on the other cores?
Seeking suggestions. I have an old Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, model TF201. Any suggestions for a simple Linux distribution? Will I need to find and save drivers? Is this worth trying? I also have the keypad that goes with it, the touch screen died after only a couple years or so, but the keypad makes it usable.
Note, I'm a newbie to Linux and it befuddled me quite easy, so I need plain language. I installed Mint on an old computer but have not mastered it and walked away out of frustration. I know I need to get back on it, October is coming up fast.
ok, NOW I remembering why I gave up on Ubuntu....
STM CUBE IDE is PAINFULLY slow (I mean like 5 minutes to build blink with no other GPIO/peripherals) and I often get "Could not determine GDB version using command: arm-none-eabi-gdb --version"
Can anyone help?
I've tried a ulimit thing and a number of other things, but it's just unsusable.
I need some #linuxhelp
I have an alchitry AU board, this has an FTDI FT2232 dual uart on board. One uart is used by the programming software and one uart is for user connectivity.
When I connect the board, the programming software (Alchitry loader) finds the board and I can program it.
BUT, I cannot see the second serial port..
I'm using Ubuntu 24.04.
A thread below of things I've done/tried and various outputs.

Linux Mint. Create new launcher on desktop. Set it to open Xed with a particular config file. Works great, but the editor is "glued" to my mouse where I have to click to choose the position before I can use the editor. Want window to just open where it was opened before without the bastard being glued to my mouse to start. How fix? #linuxhelp
Edit: FIXED
What's the config file, I hear you say? ESPANSO! Woot woot. Yep. Espanso installed and working.
#linux #linuxhelp #problemsolved #Linuxtipp
for the second time, I've managed to fill up the root partition of my Void Linux installation that's dual booted with Windows (for gaming, ofc, don't judge). apparently 20GB isn't enough for my needs which is weird because I've probably used less on my older laptop. it's an LVM setup and uses XFS and is fully encrypted (per the FDE docs).
so anyway, does anyone know how to resize the root partition on such a setup without bricking my home partition?
Steam app Linux help - unresponsive application
Bit of an it question.
Do anyone have good tip for bulk converting tool on Linux? I need to convert the .fit files from my cycling computer to .gpx
I want to make cool map of my trip and don't exactly know how to make it efficiently.
Edit: @ajft recommended https://gpsbabel.org/ that did the job just right. Now to somehow put on nice map with my underpowered hardware.
@sofasophia
