Everyone turned toward the boy whose long legs extended into the space between the desks. A few giggled.

"Mr Vasp?" queried the sub.

"Thing is, I had pressing business elsewhere, so I programmed this hologram to take my place."

The holo jumped up & sketched a bow. The sub sighed. It was going to be a long day.

Shelley was #absent the day of the announcement. She and her mother were drinking and working through some stuff. She thought the building felt awfully quiet. Not a soul in the halls. What the hell? she said, her small voice echoing back to her. At the door to the office, she sighed. Some joker had locked her out. Not in the mood for shenanigans after the session with her neurotic mother, she decided to head for the break room. That door was open. A dachshund sat on the table.

Tenderness. Money. Time.

In the scheme of absent things,
Nothing weighs more heavy
Than what isn’t there.

In the fear of absence, we lose
Ourselves and what we meant
To be.

Where there was a presence, there

Little spoke of
Due to faux apathy
Is the bubbling frustration
That I shroud in comedy
It's not that rage is #absent
It's every-present
Effervescent
Bubbling behind the humour
Or smothered in sarcastic applause
If it's not one thing, it's another
Sounds like the start of a joke
But it seems we're all
Part of the frustrated folk
So make no mistake
Hope, love, common decency
Aren't the only things
That define humanity

Which also makes me angry.

the winds of autumn
rubbing softly against the doors
scent of osmanthus
among lessons and tasks dullsome

the gentle drizzle

Since the pandemic, the number of California students who are chronically absent from school has surged to 1.8 million, says a new study by Thomas Dee at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research.

Rates of chronic absenteeism jumped to 30% in 2021-2022, from 12% in the school year before the pandemic. Chronic absenteeism was defined as missing at least 10% of the school year.
